I'm Elizabeth Schlissel and this is Tannenbaum Helpern's HRMinute. Recently, there's been an uptick of Americans Disability Act litigation against businesses. These ADA lawsuits tend to focus on two main areas. One, whether or not a brick-and-mortar business that is open to the public is accessible to individuals who are physically impaired and are wheelchair bound. That includes making sure the entry way is wide enough for a wheelchair to get through, and there is no physical barriers such as a step impeding someone's ability to enter a storefront. The other area of ADA lawsuits that companies are facing are website compliance lawsuits. Businesses that sell goods over the internet via a website must comply with the ADA. This means that their website must be compatible with screen-reader applications and programs so that individuals who are visually impaired can navigate the website.
