Biography

Burton K. Haimes is counsel in Tannenbaum Helpern’s Corporate practice. He focuses on cross border transactions, including the acquisition and disposition of businesses and related financing, international joint ventures, licensing arrangements and commercial advice, all primarily involving French enterprises. For the past 40 years, he has played a key role in developing the global outreach of major French and other European business enterprises and in their entry and development in the U.S. market through business combinations and other corporate transactions.

Prior to joining Tannenbaum Helpern, he was a corporate partner at DLA Piper and Orrick, where he chaired the NY corporate practice at Orrick and Thelen Reid, where he chaired the Corporate Department.

A lifelong philanthropist and active member of his community, Burton has served on many non-profit organizations outside of work and was a major force behind the expansion and development of youth soccer programs in the USA:

  • He is a life member of the US Soccer Federation, having served 22 years on its Board of Directors, a founding member of the Federation Internationale de Football Association’s (FIFA) Ethics Committee where he served seven years, and President/Chairman of the American Youth Soccer Organizations for 20 years.
  • Burt is the founder and Chairman Emeritus of Action Against Hunger (US) and Action Against Hunger (Canada) and is former international Chairman of the Action Contre La Faim network. Action Contre La Faim (Action Against Hunger) is a French-based, worldwide hunger relief organization with headquarters in Paris, London, Madrid, New York, and Toronto.
  • An active member of the French-American community, Burt served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the French-American School of New York (FASNY) in Westchester for seven years and is a member of the Board of Directors of La Maison Francaise of NYU.

Burt received the French Legion of Honor with the rank of Chevalier in December 2016 in New York conferred by the French Ambassador to the United States, Gerard Araud.

An ardent Francophile, Burt lives in New York City with his wife after spending 30 years in Rye, NY. He has five grown children and six grandchildren.
